What "free" actually means here
You describe the future you want, upload one selfie, and we render one photoreal scene with your real face in it. That takes about 60 seconds and costs nothing. No card and no trial that quietly converts - you do need a free account, which is what the scene gets attached to. We are being specific on purpose: the free tier is one image, not a finished eight-scene board. Anyone promising a complete personalized AI board for free is either using a generic stock face or is about to ask for a card.
Why the preview comes before the payment
Face-preserving generation either works on your face or it does not, and no amount of marketing copy settles that. So the order is deliberate: you see your own result first, then decide. The paid step exists to unlock the remaining seven scenes, not to reveal whether the product works.
The genuinely free options, and what they cost you instead
Canva free tier and Pinterest are both free and both good at what they do, which is assembling images of other people's lives into a collage. Expect to spend a couple of hours on it. If you want to see yourself in the scene, that is a different tool.
What the research supports, and what it does not
The mechanism is future self-continuity: the more you experience your future self as genuinely you, the less you discount that person's interests. Hershfield et al. (2011) found that people shown age-progressed images of their own faces allocated more to long-term savings, and MIT Media Lab's preregistered Future You study (N = 344) measured reduced anxiety and increased future self-continuity after interacting with an AI-generated future self. What none of that shows is that looking at a picture produces an outcome on its own. Pham and Taylor (1999) found that visualizing only the outcome can actually reduce effort. The image is a cue that makes the next action easier to start. It is a tool, not a spell.
